THE CHALLENGE
Redesign the website to improve the look and use. The old website was difficult to navigate and didn’t offer a smooth, engaging user experience.
This project had many challenges; a complex sitemap and lots of information meant that this would be a text heavy site with many different aspects to it. It needed to hold lots of documents and have crucial information easily accessible. The site also had to cater to different areas; both on a commercial and community level.
The heritage of the port was a big part, which meant I had to find a balance of keeping the heritage alive whilst bringing a contemporary feel to the brand and website.
THE APPROACH
Firstly I created wireframes with layout and navigation laid out. This part was particularly important in this project as I could highlight where all the information would go, and the complexity of the site was now easier to understand. I then added visual elements and finalised the layout.
I supplied the client with interactive prototypes through Invision. This way they could see how the real experience and flow would be.
THE RESULT
New responsive website with a contemporary look throughout using the new brand colours, whilst keeping the heritage of the port alive
Easy-to-use navigation, highlighting useful information and their extensive range of services. New, beautiful photography throughout so the port and its facilities are well presented
Search function in header so that the user can quickly find what they are looking for
Drop-down accordions that hold lots of information without cluttering the site with text
